Forza Italia leader and former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi arrives for a meeting with Italian President Sergio Mattarella at the Quirinale Palace in Rome, Italy October 21, 2022. Vittorio Sgarbi, an art critic and former lawmaker with Berlusconi's Forza Italia party, told state TV RAI this week that the former prime minister spent around 20 million euros to create the collection. Sgarbi told the paper the collection was "monstrously entertaining", but of little value, with only "six of seven" deemed interesting. The family spokesperson said the collection had sentimental value and denied reports it was being dismantled. Forbes estimated that Berlusconi and his family had assets worth around $6.8 billion, of which around two thirds were held by holding company Fininvest.

MILAN, Sept 15 (Reuters) - The two eldest heirs of late media mogul Silvio Berlusconi have agreed an open-ended pact which binds them to vote together at the family holding company's shareholder meetings, regulatory filings showed on Friday. In his will, Berlusconi, who died aged 86 in June, handed Marina and Pier Silvio, the offspring from his first marriage, joint control of his media and financial empire held by family holding company Fininvest. Under their pact, Marina and Pier Silvio, each owning a 26% indirect stake in Fininvest, agreed to consult at least five days before any Fininvest shareholder meeting to agree a joint position, the documents showed. The agreement secures a dominant influence of the eldest heirs over the family holding company, the regulatory filings said. All of the heirs agreed a lock-up period of five years, during which time they have pledged not to alter the stakes they hold in Fininvest, the filings showed.

REUTERS/Yara Nardi/File photo Acquire Licensing RightsROME, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Marina Berlusconi, the daughter of former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, on Friday criticised Italy's windfall tax on banks, underlining divisions over the issue in the coalition government that includes her late father's party. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has taken personal responsibility for the measure, which targets extra profits made by banks from higher interest rates. "Who determines when a profit is extra and when it is normal?," Marina Berlusconi said to reporters after the assembly of influential Italian business lobby Confindustria. Meloni has said she was open to some modifications, provided the targeted tax take remained unchanged at "just under" 3 billion euros ($3.2 billion).

MILAN, June 14 (Reuters) - Merger and acquisition speculation has lifted shares in MFE (MFEB.MI), the late Silvio Berlusconi's TV business, following his death, but a number of obstacles stand in the way of any rapid deal. With a 19.8% MFE stake, Vivendi (VIV.PA) is widely seen as the natural buyer for MFE. This week's rally has lifted the market value of the whole of MFE to 1.8 billion euros. Any accord between Vivendi and Fininvest would require overcoming the deep distrust between the two groups after years of courtroom battles sparked by a failed 2016 TV deal. Like Fininvest, Vivendi faces a loss on any potential sale of its MFE stake given the gap between book and market prices.

CNN —“I’m the most persecuted man in all of history,” then-Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi claimed in 2009, just after Italy’s constitutional court stripped him of immunity from prosecution, leaving him vulnerable as he faced yet another corruption trial. Berlusconi, the three-time Italian prime minister who died this week at 86, wrote the script for an authoritarian style of leadership within a democracy. The flamboyant billionaire owner of a business, media and sports empire, Berlusconi privatized Italian television in the 1980s. Italian television had been limited to three state-owned RAI national networks, but by the 1980s Berlusconi’s Mediaset conglomerate owned the three largest private channels. Berlusconi also raised fears in Italians about the loss of “tradition,” using the specter of Italian demographic decline to justify anti-immigrant policies that preceded those of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and other far-right leaders.

Berlusconi invented the entrepreneur as politician

Though his Forza Italia party and business empire are already weakened and unlikely to regain much prominence after his death, his unorthodox political methods spawned imitators across the West. Italy’s four-time and longest-serving prime minister, who often quipped he would live until 120, passed away on Monday. Ex-British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also became popular by portraying himself as an eccentric outsider. As Italy’s traditional parties collapsed under countless graft charges in the 1990s, he used his media popularity and image as a can-do entrepreneur to exploit Italy’s political void. Media tycoon Berlusconi founded Forza Italia when he entered politics in 1994. "I expect Brothers of Italy to be attractive to Forza Italia members," Lorenzo De Sio, a politics professor at LUISS University in Rome, said. The relationship between Berlusconi and Meloni repeatedly came under strain since they won general elections together last year. That triggered a long process which ended up in a merger between Forza Italia and MSI's heir Alleanza Nazionale in a single party. Althea Spinozzi, fixed income strategist at Saxo Bank, said the risk associated with investing in Italy can decrease with a downsized Forza Italia.
